From April 24th to 27th, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) held its 32nd annual meeting in OKURA TOKYO, Tokyo, Japan. The annual meeting was themed on “New World, New Wisdom”. This was the first annual meeting held in Tokyo since the first annual meeting in 1991. More than 1,400 people from over 80 countries attended the meeting.

Lawyer Zhang Tianyi, a partner of Tahota Lawyer Firm and Director of Tahota Vientiane Office, attended the annual meeting.

Lawyer Zhang participated in symposiums such as “Green Finance, External Investment-Foreign Investment-Economic Security-Trade War” and “Navigating Through the Maze of Global Sanctions: Influence of Geopolitics on Cross-border Energy Development Projects from a Business Perspective”. During which, he actively communicated with lawyers from the United States, Poland, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Vietnam, Italy, Russia, Peru, Japan and other countries and regions, shared the experience of Chinese lawyers in foreign-related legal services, and exchanged the experience of Chinese lawyers in providing cross-border legal services for China enterprises.

On March 27, 2017, All China Lawyers Association issued the Notice on the Selection Results of Funding Lawyers to Participate in the Activities of International Lawyers Organizations. As a result, a total of 15 lawyers from all over the country participated in the activities of the International Bar Association (IBA), IPBA and Lawyers Associated Worldwide (LAW) with such fund. Lawyer Zhang Tianyi was funded and participated in related activities of IPBA.

Tahota will take this opportunity to show the international image of China’s law firms in responding to the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the establishment of overseas institutions to provide cross-border legal services. It organizes the formulation and discussion of various rules of IPBA, shares and provides Chinese lawyers’ experience in providing cross-border and multi-field legal services, exchanges experiences in cross-border investment, mergers and acquisitions and dispute resolution, and understands the latest information of IPBA and the practice of law in different Pacific Rim countries, serving as a bridges and tie of communication between Chinese and foreign lawyers.
